Tyler, Bear and Hayley were always extremely professional and very personable. Bear has one of the best attitudes of any person that I have had the pleasure of working with. He always had a positive attitude and was more than willing to help in any way that he could. Both Bear and Tyler had exceptional communication skills. There were many times that Bear and/or Tyler and I had discussions via text or phone calls which is understandable when someone is in the field and does not have the time or accessibility to communicate via email. More often than not these communications were relayed again later via email so that everyone involved was aware of the discussions that were being had.

Malmquist Construction helped us bring our dream to life in the building of Snow Bear Chalets, our three, award-winning vacation rental chalets in Whitefish, Montana. As the World's First Ski-in/Ski-out Luxury Treehouses, located slope side at Whitefish Mountain Resort, we needed a construction firm that matched our high-quality vision. The bottom line is that i can’t imagine a better team to build a home with than Bear, Tyler and all at Malmquist. They were involved every step of the way; from the first time we stood on the lot in the snow discussing where to position the house to take advantage of the views, to helping us select the team that would build a house and turn it into a home. We underwent a 7000 square foot  house construction with Malmquist in 2017 on Whitefish Lake.  We have previously gone through home construction before and our experience with Malmquist far exceeded our first experience.  With Malmquist, we were extremely appreciative and pleased with the quality of work, the timeliness, and the accuracy on the estimate.

We worked most closely with Bear and Wilson and loved them both.  When we had an issue or a question, there was never a delay or a lack of attention to detail, to getting the problem solved.  Also, for us new to town, they really took extra effort to welcome us into the community. We also worked with their colleague, Barb Cooke, interior designer, who was wonderful and helped make the project flow well.

Lastly, we had to move out of our rental by a certain date and they got us into our new house, as promised, on time.  If we built another house, we would use them again, of course.  They are wonderful to work with and do what they say they are going to do.  Wonderful people, wonderful company.

We have done three projects with Malmquist, a remodel, an addition, and a ground up construction.  Each of these projects came in on budget and on schedule.

Most important in any client/contractor relationship is clear communication.  This quality come in spades with Malmquist.   From the overall schedule, to daily updates with photos, to billing, the communication is clear, concise, and frequent.  There are never any surprises with the projects and Bear and the project supervisors are always on top of the subs (of which they know everyone in Northwest Montana).  Working with architects and designers has been seamless with Bear and Malmquist.

As important is trust.  Trust is earned, not given, and Bear and Malmquist have earned our trust over our three projects.   This trust has been earned because everything Bear says will happen happens.  Trust is important from a billing and cost standpoint as well, and we can say with certainty that Bear and Malmquist are as honest as Abe when it comes to billing and coming in on budget.

Quality is also very important, and the quality of the builds on our projects has been world class.  We are so happy with the results of all three projects and the final product speaks for itself.

The final thing we would like to add is going above and beyond.  In any project, there are hurdles that have to be overcome.  In our experience, most builders just let those hurdles linger until the client needs to get involved to solve.  With Malmquist, and Bear specifically, the extra effort is made to make sure the hurdles are overcome.  Bear will come early and stay late to make sure everything is done and done right.

We could not be any happier with our major remodel on Whitefish Lake. The house was originally designed as a fairy traditional lake cabin with roughhewn floors and wood beams and unfortunately with limited view of the lake. Our desire with the remodel was to enhance the lake views and give the house a more modern look and feel. Making major changes to the house and at the same time integrating those changes with the existing structure was tricky, but the team at Malmquist Construction did a fantastic job.

We also cannot say enough about the subcontractors on our project. The masons, carpenters, electricians, and painters were all very professional and very good. I don't think anyone walking through the house today can tell that it has been through a major remodel; it is a very different house from where we started.

The team at Malmquist delivered a superb product on time and on budget. During the renovation, our Project Manager posted daily picture updates and the team were always available for a zoom call to discuss issues or changes.
