More recently, he spent four years out of the country doing volunteer work, mostly in Nicaragua. He and his fiancée are glad to be settling down in the Flathead where they enjoy spending time in the mountains and on the water.
“For me, a building is the byproduct of meaningful relationships with coworkers, subcontractors, and clients. Malmquist is the perfect place to build both for years to come!”
Tyler Schefter | Project Manager
Tyler found himself drawn to Whitefish after several cross country cycling adventures had him passing through town as far back as 1995. He returned to visit some friends after a summer hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and only returned home to Steamboat Springs, Colorado to fetch his belongings in a moving truck. Now living in downtown Whitefish with his partner Jessica, you may see him around town on his fat tire cargo bicycle that previously carried him from Mexico to Canada along the continental divide.
Tyler spent his formative years outside Washington D.C. in Northern Virginia. He left the east coast to attend college at the University of Wyoming where he understandably fell in love with the great American West.
Tyler began his career working for the American Red Cross as a disaster response officer and national communications infrastructure coordinator. When traveling the world responding to disasters became exhausting, he formed a small defense contracting engineering firm and spent the next 15 years as lead systems engineer designing and building equipment and facilities for the Special Forces community, various intelligence agencies, foreign governments and the occasional fire or police department. He has also spent time as a Firefighter, EMT, Police Officer, National Park Service Volunteer, Search and Rescue Coordinator and Habitat for Humanities volunteer.
Tyler brings decades of technical and management experience from many diverse disciplines to the craft of fine home building.
“Living in Whitefish and working for Malmquist is as good as life gets. Building custom homes is all about relationships and problem solving and I couldn’t imagine a better team of people, company or town to make it all happen. There really seems to be no limit to what we can create and we are all blessed to have the opportunity.”
